During the first half of 2026, I spent a considerable amount of time throwing and assembling giant pears.

The majority of the over sized fruits were exhibited at Fresh Air Sculpture 14 June – 5 July 2026 – a legendary biennial sculpture exhibition at The Old Rectory, Quenington in the heart of the Cotswolds.

My x30 terracotta pears were tastefully strewn under a large tree on the lawn. Some of the fruit placed upright, some of them on their side, the group as a whole giving the impression of giant windfalls.
I was absolutely delighted with the installation and judging by the comments and feedback, so were exhibition visitors. Many of the fruits found new homes at the end of the show.

I also exhibited a number of mini pear shakers inside The Pool House Gallery – a separate curated space within the main exhibition. These little fellas stand approximately 10 cms high and rattle when shaken.
I have exhibited at Fresh Air Sculpture on a number of occasions throughout it’s 34 year history. Participation this year was particularly poignant as it was the final ever Fresh Air Sculpture – ‘The Last Blast’.
Lucy Abel Smith and her late husband David built something rather magical at The Old Rectory in Quenington. The show the will be greatly missed by artists, makers and the sculpture loving public.
